Outside of a fun and creative season, our HALLOWEEN season is also a time when Americans 'deal'' with the hosts of inevitable situations that we experience collectively as mere mortals- death and fear of the cohorts that ride with it. This, which are all parts of being a human, are also mixed with fond memories of trick-or-treating and gorging on more sugar than the Hulk could metabolize when lifting up a fleet of school buses.
Sometimes being un-human seems like a viable way out of our fears and dilemmas. Nevertheless, one usually takes off the trimmings, masks, garbs and sheets to get 'normal' again- boo!
Anyway. with H-ween passing it is not all bad.
That is, the next event we customarily celebrate is: THANKSGIVING! This is a time to reflect on the reality of living in a world of fear and hate BUT, at the same time, gives us a chance to really appreciate the many blessings that we do have.
Yes, evil is always clawing at our, or someone else's heals. With the events that we can, or cannot, change come the realization that with trials come the opposite-beauty, friendship, rain in the San Joaquin Valley, and health.
H-ween, like a plump harvest-moon, will rise again, so lift your spirits now and plan to share your warmth and friendship this Thanksgiving.
